Classroom communication observations

Audience: Teachers and early-years staff
Proposed duration: 60–90 minutes
Activity: Work through a fictional situation and write a descriptive observation without diagnosing a child.
Takeaway: A sheet covering context, communication attempt, response and support.
Follow-up: Review whether the observation is specific enough for a team discussion.

Language in everyday routines

Audience: Early-years and primary staff
Proposed duration: 90 minutes
Activity: Choose a classroom routine and discuss opportunities for understanding and expression.
Takeaway: A small trial plan: situation, proposed support, owner and review date.
Follow-up: Compare descriptions of participation before and after the trial, without diagnostic scoring.

School–family conversations

Audience: Teachers, inclusion leads and parents
Proposed duration: 60 minutes
Activity: Rehearse a conversation starting with a strength, a specific observation and a question for the family.
Takeaway: A conversation preparation template and an agreed next step.
Follow-up: Check that each person’s action and a follow-up date are clear.
